Radschnellwege und ihre verkehrsrechtlichen Implikationen
Cycling and its planning have experienced an enormous boost in quantity and quality in recent years. The reasons for this are manifold, but mainly driven by an enormous transport policy penetration. Problematic is the parallel increase in traffic accidents with casualties, mainly fatal, but also often with severe and long-lasting injuries, that goes hand in hand with the hype. A total of 91,533 bicycle accidents with personal injury reported to the police in 2020 and thus included in the official traffic accident statistics speak a clear language. Cycle lanes could make a small contribution to increasing road safety, but only if they are designed safely and if cyclists know and master the applicable traffic rules and use them with practical foresight. Road safety requires road users to act in partnership and to treat each other fairly. This starts with a transparent planning process.
