This article highlights the practical relevance of the question whether the power of German administrative courts to enforce their decisions is limited to mere symbolism. The article argues that German administrative courts are stronger than commonly assumed if only the already existing legal instruments were utilized. Following the background of the will of the German legislator and the requirements of the European Law as recently laid out by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in the case Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V./Freistaat Bayern (C-752/18), German administrative enforcement law has much more to offer than just decorative value.
