In Turkey, the number of new wastewater treatment plants – funded by the European Union and Turkey – has risen considerably in recent years. However, the legal requirements to construct a sufficient number of such wastewater treatment plants are still not fulfilled. Therefore, it is to be expected that the volume of sewage sludge in Turkey will continue to grow in the future. There exists no sustainable concept regarding the treatment and disposal of sewage sludge in Turkey.
