Rechtliche Vorgaben der Klärschlammentsorgung in der Türkei

Ramazan Uslubaş

In Turkey, the number of new wastewater treatment plants – funded by the European Union and Turkey – has risen considerably in recent years. However, the legal requirements to construct a sufficient number of such wastewater treatment plants are still not fulfilled. Therefore, it is to be expected that the volume of sewage sludge in Turkey will continue to grow in the future. There exists no sustainable concept regarding the treatment and disposal of sewage sludge in Turkey. Due to the change of the legal framework for the disposal of sewage sludge, which is related to the accession process of Turkey to the European Union, uncontrolled disposal of sewage sludge is no longer easily possible. Meanwhile, the recovery respectively utilization of sewage sludge has priority in Turkey. The article shows the possible disposal options of sewage sludge.
